BA (Hons), Graduate Teacher Program with QTS, Post-Graduate Certificate in SpLD (Dyslexia), AMBDA, APC (British Dyslexia Association), Post-Graduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs (National SENCo Award).

Background

I have been teaching in Primary schools and outdoor activity centres in Leeds since 2001. In 2009, I became a specialist teacher in a unit for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, before returning to mainstream primary in 2012 to take on the role of SENCo at my current school. My interest in promoting good practice for children with dyslexia has increased due to the number of children diagnosed in my school, leading me to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). I am very excited to join the Dyslexia Alliance Yorkshire team as an assessor and specialist teacher this year.

How I can help

I am a fully qualified dyslexia assessor with a practicing certificate and can assess students up to age 16. I also offer some hourly specialist teaching sessions on Wednesdays afternoons in our base at St. Matthew’s C. of E. (A) Primary School in Leeds. I believe it is essential to create links between families and schools, so will liaise with school staff to ensure they understand how best to support their dyslexic students.
Please contact me at michelle@dayonline.org.uk if you have any questions or to arrange an assessment.
