Background

After working as a SENCo in London and Yorkshire, I studied for Dyslexia Action’s  Postgraduate Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy at York University. From 2006 I worked as a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher helping learners (aged 7-19) to develop their literacy, basic maths and study skills. I devised, implemented and monitored learning programmes which were designed to reflect individual needs, ensure progression and promote confidence. I worked closely with parents and teachers to ensure a ‘joined-up’ approach to support.

How I can help

I now focus on assessing. I hold an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and am qualified to carry out full diagnostic dyslexia assessments and examination access arrangements assessments. I undertake regular training to update my skills and always consider the possibility that learners may have other difficulties co-occurring with dyslexia. As a former SENCo, I believe it is essential to make practical, ‘real-world’ recommendations for supporting dyslexic learners, both in educational settings and at home.

I offer a free initial consultation to parents, students and teachers to discuss any concerns and explore whether an assessment is appropriate.

Please contact me at my email address if you think I can help.
